Pucci makes Illy arty

No one loves coffee more than the Italians (apart from any parent after a late night and early morning).

So it makes sense that one of the most revered coffee suppliers collaborates with one of the greatest Italian design houses too. Let me introduce you to Illy by Emilio Pucci.

Florence, Rome, Milan, New York, London and Paris: Emilio Pucci’s signature patterns have now been applied to a special collection of decorated coffee cups, featuring 6 “Cities of the World” prints, exclusive, hand drawn prints depicting scenes from global metropolises, including one designed by the Marquis Emilio Pucci in 1957.

A coffee cup is no longer allowed to be whatever you can put your hand on in the cupboard (typically a mug with your university emblazoned on it that you bought at the union when you realised you didn’t have a souvenir from your three years away).

Our taste for good quality coffee over the past decade has extended across now to what we put those precious drops of caffine in, but much like their taste for coffee, the Italians are always one step ahead.

The collaboration with Illy and the Florentine fashion Maison Emilio Pucci comes follows a line of the world’s top contemporary artists who have all put their own stamp on the famous white, short handled coffee cup. This collaboration though is the coffee giant’s very first partnership wth a fashion label as part of their ‘Art Collection’.

The story of Emilio Pucci’s “Cities of the World” prints begins in 1957 when the Marquis Emilio Pucci penned his now iconic Battistero illustration, a special drawing depicting Florence’s Piazza Santa Maria del Fiore shot with bright flashes of vibrant lemon yellow tangerine orange, “Emilio” pink and deep fuchsia.

Originally produced for his chic silk twill scarves, the print was conceived as a portable postcard; a love letter to the Marquise’s hometown and a souvenir his clients could carry and treasure when they returned home.

The Pucci cups and espresso cups and saucers are online now and ready to order for the coffee-lover in your life. Much like a Pucci scarf, they’re not for every day but certainly one to take out when you need a talking point. Post dinner party is perfect. Saluti!
