Mums Enterprise Roadshow welcomes Over 3000 visitors

“Oh I’m just a mum of two trying to find myself again”, the quote from one Mum who popped to chat with us at our stand at the Mums Enterprise Roadshow, Manchester, yesterday.

Firstly, there’s no ‘just’ when it comes to describing yourself as a mum. Motherhood is hard graft, and a full time job in itself. But we understood the sentiment from this mum of two. She wasn’t alone in her thoughts or her journey to discover something for herself either. Yesterday was an inspiring day, as over 3000 visited this unique event that was brought to Manchester by two mums Lindsey Fish and Lucy Chaplin, who themselves faced a conundrum with careers once they became mothers.

With the objective of helping mums to discover flexible working whether through re training, starting up their own business or exploring the world of franchise, this pop up event, was a carefully curated lineup of useful and inspiring workshops, informative expo and networking.

We were overwhelmed by how many of you came to share your story with us, and loved seeing your personal promises on our pledge wall too. From those juggling new businesses with new babies, to those looking to retrain and upskill following a career break and raising a family, it was evident that there was one thing all were striving for, flexible working.

The most repeated ‘reason for visiting’ yesterday, was one that made us stop and think long and hard on our drive home last night. A whole workforce of inspiring women who have successful careers, but who are now on maternity leave and are desperate not to return to work in the archaic, traditional sense, of being clocked into an office and mentally tied to a desk from 8-6 everyday.

The Mums Enterprise Roadshow yesterday, was a superb platform for women to be inspired, to understand we are all in control of  our own destiny, and to reinforce the message more than ever that the world of work (in the traditional sense) will have to change in order to retain these women and their  professional excellence, skills and talent. Let’s make that change sooner rather than later though, hey?
