Preston school praised for ‘ambitious vision’ for the future

A Preston High School has been praised for its ‘outstanding teaching’ and ‘ambitious vision’ for the future.

Preston Muslim Girls High School has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors – the highest accolade available to schools.

The Peel Hall Street school in Deepdale, which has 437 pupils, was inspected over two days.

Inspectors said: “Governors and leaders are relentless in pursuing the very best for the pupils.

“Teachers have very high expectations of all pupils. They ensure that all groups of pupils make exceptional progress from their starting points.”

Inspectors praised the drive of the Headteacher, Mufti Javid, to broaden the provision of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness of life in modern Britain which has created tolerant, respectful and considerate pupils.

Inspectors found the school to be outstanding in all four areas: leadership and management, teaching and learning, personal development behaviour and welfare and pupil outcomes.

The report was highly complementary about the pupils. It said: “The conduct of the girls is exemplary. They are mature, courteous and polite.”

Pupils at the girl’s school, which was graded ‘good’ in the last inspection, were ecstatic when they were told the news.

Mufti Javid said: “We are delighted with the Ofsted judgement of ‘Outstanding’ especially following a set of outstanding GCSE results in the summer.

“The school continues to go from strength to strength to give the best possible learning experience to our pupils.

“We would like to thank all the staff, pupils, parents, staff and governors and the entire community for their dedicated support.”

Since the last inspection the school has almost doubled in size. This has required some extensive building improvements and upgrades to facilities including a new science block, a new library, Design and Technology facilities, a new school canteen and a new IT infrastructure.

Mufti Javid added: “We are delighted that the school has got the recognition we feel it deserves and we will continue to improve.”
