The Garden Gang – Our pick of the best gardens and terraces to enjoy this summer.

So we have it on good authority, that at some point in the not to distant future, summer will arrive, the sun will shine and we will be able to dine alfresco with a drink in hand!

Here’s our pick of the best gardens and terraces to enjoy this summer.

BEST FOR JUST THE TWO OF YOU

EDEN BY RED DOOR, LIVERPOOL

The team behind Liverpool’s favourite cocktail bar, Red Door, has launched Eden – an exclusive rooftop retreat. Offering a sumptuous, paradisal atmosphere completed with table service, Eden is decorated with whitewashed brickwork, plush cushions, foliage and distressed furniture to create a luxurious ‘Instagrammable’ aesthetic. The bespoke cocktail menu consists of an array of expertly made creations, such as The Poison apple – a ‘colour-changing’ mix of rhubarb and ginger gin, apple Manzana verde, cinnamon syrup, lemon juice, vanilla foam and a blue pea flower shot.

BEST FOR AN AFTERNOON WITH THE GIRLS

SUNSET BY AUSTRALASIA, MANCHESTER

The hotspot replaces the terrace bar at Spinningfields’ stylish Pan Asian sanctuary, Australasia. Retaining the reputation for the best sushi and seafood, the Sunset menu takes inspiration from Australian cuisine and Pacific Rim flavours. A popular choice is the Sunset Afternoon Tea – a selection of savoury favourites and delectable desserts and pastries, served in Sunset’s signature Bento Box. The interior boasts sumptuous pink velvet booths, distressed mirrors and statement leaf-print wallpaper. Meanwhile, the outdoor terrace, which is heated and canopied for the winter months, is decorated with a floral trellis, candy-striped floor and chic, white wooden benches adorned with plush scatter cushions. Get the girls together and head to Sunset.

BEST FOR GETTING TOGETHER WITH FRIENDS

COMMONHALL ST. SOCIAL, CHESTER

Hidden away down a city centre side street is, in our opinion, one of the coolest and quirkiest bars in Chester.

Commonhall St. Social is gem of a venue, owned by Chester Racecourse, and loved by locals and visitors alike.

Beyond the welcoming vibes of the cosy bar with its renowned craft beers and delicious menu of global inspired street food, is a secluded walled garden and terrace. Up your game if you plan to join the garden gang here. It’s a hub for the cool kids, the creative thinkers, the worldly wise, and we couldn’t love it more.

Buddy up for ping pong, laze in the sunshine, gather with friends for delicious eats, Commonhall St. Social has it covered.

BEST FOR TIME WITH THE KIDS

THE VIKING PUB & BAKEHOUSE, WIRRAL

Very much a neighbourhood vibe here, but a warm welcome awaits all.

Owned by chef and TV presenter, Simon Rimmer, The Viking Pub & Bakehouse, offers a strong seasonal menu, including the popular Sunday Roast. With a great breakfast menu, and balanced dining offering for kids including heaps of popular choices, this is very much a family venue.

The garden has had a makeover for 2019 and we love it! The Viking ship play space is popular for little ones, there’s garden ping pong and even boules to keep all entertained.

The garden is the perfect setting to relax and unwind with a gin and tonic whilst the kids play. There’s regular events here too, focused on bringing the community together – even well behaved four legged friends are welcome too.

Look out for their summer events, including their summer fete on 20th July.
